As we move beyond the initial stages of our rollout, we are seeing an exciting increase in re-published surveys across the state. This transition marks a new phase in our implementation, and we want to ensure you have the resources needed to manage live data collection with confidence. In this update, you’ll find critical checklists for reviewing your work, a celebration of recent successes from the DNR team, and information on how to access your new CX dashboards and studios.
Publishing and Re-Publish Guidance
We’re excited to see more surveys being re‑published! This is a great sign that we’re moving out of the evergreen stage, and it means it’s time to start preparing resources for the next phase of our implementation.
This article isn’t meant to worry you. Its goal is to highlight a few things you may not know yet and to reinforce an important step: taking time to thoroughly review your survey before you begin collecting data.
Inside you’ll find a checklist of what to review before your first publish, along with key considerations once your survey is live and data collection has begun. Both guides are designed to help you feel confident and prepared at every stage of the process.
Please read these thoroughly. Thank you in advance!

Highlight Story
We love sharing success stories from our colleagues to showcase what we can achieve and celebrate their hard work.
This time, we're celebrating Rebecca Krogman and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) team. They made a significant improvement in how we study local trout fishing by using numerous Qualtrics tools for the 2026 Iowa Trout Angler Survey. They improved the invitation process, simplified the survey experience, and expect to get and share results much more quickly.
Agency: DNR – Department of Natural Resources
Creator: Rebecca Krogman
Project: 2026 Iowa Trout Angler Survey Modernization
Details: This survey, conducted every 5 years, is getting a complete makeover thanks to a new partnership with Qualtrics. By going digital with the suite of tools available from Qualtrics, Rebecca and her team will be able to reach more people than ever and get more accurate information. The project uses smart tools to make the survey experience better for everyone, including:
- Qualtrics Directory automatically verifies that invited people are who they claim to be.
- Sending personal emails and postcards to make sure everyone has a fair chance to participate.
- Flexible options that allow people to respond anonymously or by logging in, depending on the need.
- Sending automated reminders to help people finish the survey.
- Fixing potential problems early so the survey launches on time.
We expect great things from this project. This smart plan will make sure we get enough responses from a diverse group of people. By following up with those who don't reply right away, we can reduce errors from people forgetting details. All of this work will help us set a high bar for collecting and reporting data, creating a method that other teams can use for their future research across the entire agency.

This will also help you make sure you request the correct permissions when collaborating through a service account or from your own account. Understanding the different collaboration permission levels is important for keeping data secure.
