There are over 1,300 topics for Iowans to subscribe to on the Iowa.gov subscribe link. Make certain that you are only displaying the topics you want to be public.
A common mistake is when a new topic is created, it defaults to Listed when the agency does not intend to allow anyone to sign up.
Go to this list of topics to see which of your topics are appearing on the Iowa.gov subscribe link. If you didn't intend for the list to appear, you can change the visibility in govDelivery to Unlisted or Restricted.
Visibility definitions
Unlisted means you still have a link you can share to have people subscribe - it just doesn't show up in your public topics or on Iowa.gov.
Restricted means you are the only one who can add a name to a list. Restricted lists are often used when an agency exports data from a licensing system and imports the list to govDelivery.
This is also a good time to think about when the last time you sent a message to the subscribers of your topics.
If the topic was a one time or short-term list, such as conference-related information or a time limited program, consider retiring the topic.
We recommend changing the topic name to Retired - Topic name and changing the visibility to Restricted. You can also delete the topic.
Before deleting the topic, download all subscribers. This way, you’ll have their contact info if you want to reach out later.
This is a great opportunity to send a final message to the subscribers to let them know the topic is retiring. You can also promote the opportunity to subscribe to other department topics.
