Purpose

The Location page is designed to create pages for physical locations, such as office addresses, public facilities, or service centers.

When to Use Location Page

This content type is ideal for situations where you need to provide information about a physical location, including:

  • Agency Offices: Showcase your agency's main office or branch locations.
  • Public Facilities: Provide information on public facilities like Department of Motor Vehicles offices, veteran service centers, libraries, etc.
  • Service Centers: List locations for medical facilities, polling stations, sanitation plants, or other service centers.

Elements of Location Page

  • Address Information: Include details like street address, city, state, and zip code.
  • Contact Information: Provide phone number, email address, and website (if applicable).
  • Hours of Operation: Specify opening and closing hours for the location.
  • Map Visibility: Be aware that map integrations might not display correctly during development on "pantheonsite.io" domains. Allow a few days for Google Maps to update after site migration to your "iowa.gov" domain.
  • Optional Elements: You can add descriptions, photos, or other relevant information about the location.

Create Clickable Phone Numbers

You can add the number of your location turn it into a link that mobile users can select and initiate a call. A simple method to do this is to select edit within your location and then highlight the number and use the linkit tool and add the text "tel:" and then your locations number.

Create a new Location content type

Navigate to Content | Add Content | Location, and insert the details related to the location.

Note that the Location "Type" is optional and may be controlled by a user with Taxonomy Manager privileges, it is handled inside Structure | Taxonomy | Location Type. Typically we've seen location types be quite varied such as: "Office"  or "Medical Facility" or even a designation such as "Public Reservations Accepted." Learn more about Taxonomy.

Other content added to the Location content type includes the Areas Served (by county), image (typically this is an image of the front door of your building), address, hours open, if the location is temporarily closed.
