Agency Knowledge Share Office Hour - Feedback Request

As we are approaching the end of the project, it is important to plan ahead. The DX Team has recently received a request for an "Agency Knowledge Share Office Hour." This would provide an opportunity for colleagues to meet for 30-60 minutes to share and collaborate on ways they have provided and learned knowledge from each other. Some examples of topics for discussion could include how to solve specific issues, overcome challenges, and other content strategist topics.

What's Changed for Authors

  • Top Hat: The Steering Committee decided to remove the phrase "Here is how you know" from the top hat and instead make "Official State of Iowa website" the link. This was decided to enhance accessibility.
    • In the upcoming weeks, we will provide more information and resources, including the instructions and code for the Top Hat.

  • Flickr integration: Flickr has been implemented, allowing authors to embed a Flickr album into a News content type.
  • Editorial view: An editorial view was developed to list all content items not edited within the past 24 months, helping to prevent issues with outdated content. This "Outdated Content" list is vital for maintaining the relevance and accuracy of site content, enabling users to easily identify and review stale items to ensure the site remains current and engaging.

Behind the Scenes

Numerous updates these past few weeks focused on improving the DX Platform behind the scenes, aiming to create a more user-friendly and navigable experience. Some of these updates include:

  • Location: The extraneous "Additional Information" text is removed from the location content type.
  • Contacts: The number of contacts associated with a Basic Page content type is increased from 2 to 3.

Enhancements on Hold

  • Exclude filter terms with no results from appearing in the drop-down menu: As we near the end of the project, we need to determine the time and level of effort required. At this point, we have decided not to implement the enhancement to 'exclude filter terms with no results from appearing in the drop-down menu'.  We will continue to keep it on our enhancement list for possible future improvements, but at this time in the project, we will not be implementing it.

Content Managers' Meeting

In the September Content Managers' Meeting, we covered key topics to enhance your content strategy:

  • Access Agency Document Click Reports: We discussed the significance of tracking document clicks for evaluating content performance and demonstrated how to access the Agency Document Click Reports folder in Google Search Console.
  • Connect Google Search Console to Google Analytics: We learned the benefits of integrating these platforms for comprehensive data insights, with step-by-step instructions on linking Google Search Console to your Google Analytics account.
  • Locate Document Views in Google Analytics: We explored how to use the connected Search Console within Google Analytics to track document views, adjust date ranges, and export reports for detailed analysis and sharing.

  • Content Strategy Office Hours: Please note that Content Strategy Office Hours are now held exclusively on Thursdays. The Tuesday meetings have been discontinued. Be sure to adjust your schedules accordingly!
  • Taxonomy: The Taxonomy Manager add-on role will be decommissioned by the end of September. This change is not expected to impact your ability to edit site content.
