Event Recap
The Microsoft Excel Document Accessibility training slide deck provided by MSFW, will show processes and techniques for Microsoft Excel.
This covers checking accessibility in Excel, adding alt text to visuals, choosing accessible fonts and colors, and making accessible tables.
Are Excel tables with basic content accessible by default?
- Partially. Excel has some built-in accessibility features, but a workbook is not automatically fully accessible just because it uses tables.
- Basic tables (with headers and structured data) are generally easier for screen readers to interpret than raw cell ranges, but accessibility depends on:
- Proper header row designation (using “Format as Table” in Excel).
- Clear sheet names and logical tab order.
- Completely avoiding merged cells, blank rows, and visual only cues.
- Providing alt text for images/charts.
- Ensuring color contrast and not relying solely on color for meaning.
